Love it. We had a great laugh. Even though it says it ends at 9:30, be sure to have another hour to spare because the comedy show does end at 10:30. From 9:30 to 10:30, it's a fast-paced show where the comedian only has 3 minutes. Just be aware if you buy food/drinks, 18% is automatically charged to the final price. Toward the end, they give you the payment machine for the tipping percentage, but that is actually the "additional tip." It is a good tactic; I don't think anyone really noticed unless that is just normal in Chicago. Overall, it's a great comedy spot and great food/drinks. Coming back again!
The talent of the comics is undeniable, and this isn’t a review of their performance. However, the ambiance and management of the venue leave much to be desired.
Upon arrival, even a 30-minute early entry does not guarantee a good seat. We were relegated to the back, where visibility is significantly hindered. This issue is compounded by the venue's layout, which does not seem to cater well to ensuring every seat has a clear view of the stage.
Audio quality is another major concern. The prevalence of table talk throughout the venue creates a constant background noise, making it challenging to focus on the comedians' performances. This problem is exacerbated by some patrons' lack of etiquette, such as talking during the show or, video recording the entire performance despite the presence of staff.
Speaking of the staff, while they appear to be doing their job, there seems to be a lack of enforcement of basic show etiquette. Actions like recording performances or disruptive talking should ideally be managed to ensure an enjoyable experience for all attendees.
In summary, while The Comedy Bar showcases excellent comedic talent, the overall experience is marred by poor seating arrangements, sound issues, and a lack of effective management regarding audience behavior. For those seeking a seamless comedy show experience, it may be wise to consider other venues until these issues are addressed. The brilliance of the comedians deserves a better platform, one where their art can be fully appreciated without distractions.
This place shows discrimination towards Black and Brown people. Black and Brown comedians show up and show out here so, instead of boycotting this spot, I would advice you to pregame, somewhere else, then buy 2 bottles of water and close out ur tab. There is a min of 2 items purchased policy plus that add 18% gratuity.
Cool club!!! There is a Two drink/food minimum which is well explained. Some people complain about this but I did not mind it as it supports the art! It keeps the club open, comedians performing and service industry workers working!
It was worth every penny!! Two of us went for the early show on a Friday night. Great vibe from the moment we arrived. There were a total of 4 comedians. Also, there’s no drink minimum. Would definitely return!
The Comedy Bar was a fun experience! I would definatly recommend it for a fun night out for food and entertainment. The food was very impressive. I highly recommend you get the mozzarella sticks! They were absolutely INCREDIBLE. The walk up the stairs to the entertainment space has a cool vibe as well.
Came here for something to do on a Thursday night of a trip to Chicago. Atmosphere was awesome, staff was so friendly. The line up was pretty funny and entertaining. Acts weren’t on too long so it kept my attention longer. Only one act that wasn’t funny, but again not on long enough to make you want to leave. Show started at 8pm and there was an open mic after. Food was great... spinach and cheese mozzarella sticks were incredible!!
Our HS band and chaperones were booked at this venue by WorldStride for dinner provided by Gino's. Upon arrival at 5pm, we waited on our dinner. Our group began to be served at approximately 5:25-5:30pm. Some of our group decided to order of the menu. We were then rudely informed by Hannah that our orders would be to go as we needed to be out of the space by 6pm. She proceeded to aggressively show us the contract that was booked 3rd party. 91 people to be situated, seated, and served at this point in less than 25 minutes is ridiculous. Hannah had the worst attitude as for manager towards children. She slammed a pizza pan on the table, was snappy, and smug as she and her staff basically booted our group of multi- cultural children out.
